Big Data Analytics

Big data insights you can trust

Because of its ever-growing volume and variety, big data is difficult to find, prepare, master, govern, and protect. As the pace of business speeds up and the velocity of data from the Internet of Things increases, organizations are finding it increasingly difficult to capture and process big data in real time. Manual processes for reconciling fragmented, duplicate, inconsistent, inaccurate, and incomplete data, as well as fragmented point solutions, result in dubious data and delayed business insights that can’t be trusted.
A systematic approach to big data management that is cloud-ready from day one enables you to quickly and repeatably get more business value from more big data without more risk.
Cloud-ready integration of big data from diverse sources
Informatica enables data management professionals to maximize the value of their investments in Hadoop by integrating more data. Informatica’s library of hundreds of prebuilt connectors, simplified stream processing on top of open-source and proprietary streaming engines, as well as out-of-the-box connectivity to cloud databases, cloud data stores, and cloud applications enables you to integrate nearly any data anywhere. Support for Tableau Data Extracts and a hub-based publish/subscribe architecture also let you repeatably deliver more data faster to more data targets.
Big data quality, mastering, security, and governance
Machine learning enables discovery of data and relationships that would be challenging and time-consuming otherwise. Graph-based real-time matching and linking of big data accelerates and perfects how you master and discover relationships across all business-critical data. Multi-persona interfaces and rule builders lets data analysts, data stewards, and other business users effectively and efficiently collaborate. A risk-centric approach classifies sensitive data and proactively detects threats of unauthorized access or proliferation. A self-service data preparation interface features built-in data lineage, enterprise-wide data asset discovery, and smart data set recommendations, so the right people get the right data at the right time.

Fishbowl Forms Innovation Council to Propel Technology Vision

Fishbowl, the industry-leading Intelligent Marketing Automation and Analytics Platform provider, has announced the formation of its Innovation Council to facilitate inventive ideas that continue to push Fishbowl forward as a ground-breaking technology company. Fishbowl helps restaurants leverage data to gain better return on their relationships and drive predictable sales growth.
Millennials represent one of the largest and most influential demographic groups in both the workplace and marketplace today. Fishbowl recognized that this group could be instrumental in providing fresh perspectives and ideas that could be leveraged to propel the business into the future, as well as keep the company and brand relevant in the face of a rapidly changing economic landscape.
The council is comprised of top performers from various departments who have been nominated by their department heads. The selected council members meet monthly to discuss a variety of pre-determined topics that facilitate stimulating conversation and innovative idea-sharing.
“The Innovation Council was founded out of the sincere desire to gain deeper consumer and employee insights from this influential group,” said Cacie Waller, Fishbowl’s Director, Local Marketing Services. “I’ve truly enjoyed hearing from my peers and gaining an enhanced perspective. It’s amazing to see how differently we all see things because we’re each from different departments and backgrounds.”
To date, the council has put forth a number of initiatives, most notably product improvements and enhanced partnership opportunities with social media outlets.
Fishbowl believes businesses of all types can benefit from a similar model to remain relevant by listening to the feedback of millennial employees – who also happen to be consumers.“The primary consumer has shifted to an audience that mainly consists of the millennial generation and it is important to listen to this audience’s feedback,” continued Waller. “Businesses that take advantage of the new perspective that their millennial employees provide, and put it into practice, will continue to grow.”

Intelligent Cloud Services

iPaaS Re-imagined

One of the biggest barriers to effective cloud adoption is connecting, synchronizing, and relating data, applications, and processes among cloud and on-premises systems. The added complexity of hybrid makes it difficult to effectively share and use business data across the organization.
Data integration through iPaaS alone is no longer sufficient to tackle enterprise cloud data management. Instead, Informatica Intelligent Cloud services will feature the industry’s next-generation user experience based on a modern API-based microservices architecture, powered by Informatica’s innovative enterprise unified metadata intelligence, known as the CLAIRE engine.
We have removed the complexity so you can focus on business value. We will upgrade and evolve constantly in the background so you aren’t distracted from your own innovation.

A Modern Cloud of Clouds

Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services moves past the traditional definition of iPaaS; cloud data integration, cloud application and process integration, API management and connectivity. Its modern “cloud of clouds” delivers industry-leading data management and integration capabilities, powered by CLAIRE:
  • Integration Cloud: Integration Cloud greatly expands the traditional definition of iPaaS to include advanced unique functionality such as Cloud Integration Hub and Cloud B2B.
  • Data Quality and Governance Cloud: Delivers data quality and governance foundation for all cloud projects and initiatives.
  • Master Data Management Cloud: Provides single, complete, and accurate views across all forms of master data, in a single source of truth, providing cloud MDM solutions that will scale to the most demanding enterprise requirements with business self-service and self-management of master data.
  • Data Security Cloud: Provides the industry’s best data security intelligence solution in the cloud, to detect and protect against data risks as well as intelligently spot patterns of user behavior that might suggest a data risk.

Next-Gen User Experience

The API-based microservices architecture delivers common services— such as user authentication, workflow creation, asset management, search, and  tagging—that look the same, but also operate exactly the same wherever they are invoked across the cloud. This user experience dramatically reduces the learning curve for new tools and drives self-service.
The new microservices approach is based on open REST APIs.  This will enable a continued rapid pace of innovation, allowing us to bring new services and advance existing services at a rapid pace.

Sophos joins global alliance to fight the cybercrooks

For an eternity, security leaders have emphasized the need for private companies and government agencies to work together at fighting online threats and bolstering defenses.
Entities like the Global Cyber Alliance (GCA) were formed for that very purpose. Think of it as infosec’s Justice League or Avengers – an ensemble of heroes joining forces to fight evil.
Sophos is now officially part of that ensemble, joining the effort in May.
The GCA is unique as it spans public and private sectors and across borders to catalyze efforts to combat malicious cyber activities that introduce systemic risk. The GCA takes on challenges that no organization or community can deal with alone.
The alliance was founded by a partnership of law enforcement and research organizations focused on combating systemic cyber risk in real, measurable ways. Founding partners include the City of London Police, Manhattan District Attorney and the Center for Internet Security.
Through its partnerships with companies and the public sector, the GCA identifies projects and implements solutions for individuals and small businesses that address risk. The GCA focuses on cybersecurity problems that can be measurably improved for all – particularly underserved segments such as individuals and small businesses that otherwise lack awareness and expertise in cybersecurity risks.
For example, it launched an initiative to drive adoption of DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication Reporting and Conformance) to prevent email-based phishing. Phishing continues to be the most significant cause of account takeover and “CEO fraud” – spoofed emails that convince users and executives to hand over account credentials and wire money inadvertently to illegitimate parties.
DMARC addresses phishing by authenticating emails from a company or any organization’s domain, while discarding and reporting fraudulent or spoofed messages.
To date, GCA has recorded over 1,100 organizations that have gone through the DMARC set up based on its efforts.  For more information, see dmarc.globalcyberalliance.org.
Sophos is excited to join the Global Cyber Alliance in partnership with other leading companies and organizations because we believe the internet must be secure and resilient for all to use.
Though we recognize no single company or government can solve the systemic risks associated with cyber threats, GCA provides a clear strategy for tackling these problems.
We’re proud to partner with the GCA on this noble mission.

Symantec SSL – Learn How SSL Works – Symantec

Secure Sockets Layer (SSL): How it works
What happens when a browser finds SSL
The browser attempts to connect to an SSL-secured site.
The browser asks the Web server to identify itself.
The server sends a copy of your SSL certificate to the browser.
The browser verifies that the SSL certificate is trusted. If it is, it sends a message to the server.
The server returns a digitally signed confirmation to initiate an encrypted SSL session.
Encrypted data is shared between the browser and the server.
Encryption protects data during transmission
Web servers and browsers rely on the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol to help users protect their data while transferring through an encrypted channel exclusively for private communications over the public Internet. Each SSL certificate consists of a pair of keys plus verified identification information. When a Web browser (or client) points to a secured site, the server shares the public key with the client to establish an encryption method and a single session key. The client confirms that it recognizes and trusts the SSL certificate issuer. This process is called an “SSL handshake” and initiates a secure session that protects the privacy and integrity of messages. Strong 128-bit encryption can calculate 288 times as many combinations as 40-bit encryption. That means a security that is more than a trillion times stronger. At current computing speeds, a hacker with the time, tools, and motivation to perform an attack using brute force would require a trillion years to hack into a session protected by a SGC-enabled certificate. To enable strong encryption for most site visitors, choose an SSL certificate that enables 128-bit minimum encryption for 99.9% of visitors.

IDERA Launches SQL Secure and SQL Doctor Cloud Updates

IDERA, a leading provider of database lifecycle management solutions, today released major updates to its flagship SQL Secure and SQL Doctor products to include new cloud features. These releases enable data professionals to adapt, experiment with, and leverage on growing cloud strategies and help DBAs adopt DevOps speed and agility requirements with database performance and cloud-designed security recommendations Public. With the latest versions of SQL Secure and SQL Doctor, database administrators (DBAs) can now view cloud-based databases in both local and public in a single-panel console. They also receive cloud-specific recommendations to improve the performance, health, and security of public cloud databases to ensure they are as secure as those on the ground. Both SQL Secure and SQL Doctor target on-premises SQL Server and Azure VM, as well as the Azure SQL database. SQL Doctor also craves SQL Server on Amazon EC2 and Amazon RDS SQL Server.
“Continued growth in hybrid cloud environments increases the likelihood of data breaches, which is one of the trade-offs for realizing the benefits of the public cloud,” said Robert Anderson, vice president of product management at IDERA. “It is imperative that organizations have installed policies and tools that can detect when sensitive data is at risk. IDERA gives users the confidence to move databases to the cloud by connecting points between traditional DBA operations and teams DevOps, helping them improve the performance and security of cloud databases with tools they know and trust. ” While other products provide basic performance monitoring and availability of cloud databases, SQL Doctor now inspects cloud databases and locations for common health concerns, providing detailed recommendations and script actions to solve problems and optimize performance. SQL Doctor also directly manages the cloud database as a service (that is, Amazon RDS SQL Server and Azure SQL database), resulting in superior visibility and performance. The latest version of SQL Secure now extends the product functionality of local databases to databases in the cloud, giving DBAs a comprehensive, automated solution for analyzing, monitoring, and reporting on security concerns for SQL Server and Azure SQL Databases . SQL Secure scans local and cloud databases against the best security practices of a single console, allowing enterprises to move workloads to the cloud without fear of a debilitating security breach.

TIBCO JASPERSOFT PROFESSIONAL SERVICES METHODOLOGY

The key to a successful services engagement is a complete scope definition with all activities and deliverables clearly defined. Our service packages, such as the Jumpstart Programs, outline the typical activities involved in enabling development teams on the Jaspersoft BI platform. To further refine the scope, in order to guarantee that all customer expectations are met, we follow this streamlined but effective process:
  • An initial discovery call (prior to purchase) to identify specific topics, activities and deliverables that will be covered in the service engagement. Jaspersoft may request additional requirements for review. This initial scope is distributed and validated by customer and Jaspersoft services delivery team. We also capture and document platform and high level logistics (location & desired schedule).
  • A project planning call (post purchase) to validate initial scope, lock down a schedule, high level logistics and a consulting resource.
  • A kick-off call (pre-project) is conducted between customer’s key players (e.g. business sponsor, business analyst, technical lead, project manager, DBA), Jaspersoft Professional Services and the assigned consultant. The team reviews and refines the scope, and details specific tasks, deliverables and an agenda for the engagement. Logistics are finalized. This project plan is distributed and validated by the customer and Jaspersoft services delivery team.
  • One or more status calls are conducted, as needed, between Jaspersoft PS, the assigned consultant and the customer’s project team (including original business sponsor and other involved people) to a ssess the progress of the project against plan.
  • An optional wrap-up call (optional as project wrap-up will be documented) can be held by the project team to assess final project status and/or next steps.
Adhering to this established process generally yields a successful engagement. Sometimes, however, the project team discovers new requirements or challenges that might require additional time, and the scope increases. Jaspersoft will evaluate the desired changes, estimates the effort to manage the increased scope and may propose additional time via a formal change order.
